Partner Spotlight – Cohen Veterans Center at New York University Langone Medical Center
The Cohen Veterans Center at NYU Langone is a major partner of Cohen Veterans Bioscience. Charles Marmar, MD, oversees the Cohen Veterans Center research initiatives and has deep experience in the natural history and treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Dr. Marmar has treated patients with PTSD and related conditions for nearly 40 years and published over 100 peer-reviewed articles on the biological underpinnings of PTSD and its interventions.
Supported by a grant from Cohen Veterans Bioscience, Dr. Marmar’s team is fulfilling its mission to uncover the biology of common conditions in Veteran’s Mental Health. They are collecting data on a large cohort of veterans with PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Major Depressive Disorder who served in Iraq or Afghanistan. This is one of the largest studies in psychiatry to date to pursue multiple streams of omic level data. Using a wide array of cutting edge technologies to quantify Veteran’s Mental Health, Dr. Marmar’s group is pursuing a holistic, systems biology view of the molecular and physiological drivers of disease. This work will lead to improved diagnostics and treatments for PTSD, TBI, and common comorbidities of these disorders.
