Data Engineer – Neuroimaging

Cohen Veterans Bioscience (CVB) is seeking a Data Engineer to join our team. The role involves the development of data processing pipelines for multi-modal/multi-domain datasets, with a specific emphasis on neuroimaging data. This hands-on role involves working on multiple projects, including leveraging our in-house neuroimaging cohorts in conjunction with comprehensive clinical and biomarker assessments, collaborating with internal and external partners in diverse clinical areas such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI), while contributing to the broader scope of data ingest and pipeline development within the BRAINCommons platform.

Reports to: Chief Information Officer

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain data processing pipelines, linking large datasets to analysis tools in the cloud.
  • Support data wrangling, cleaning, and harmonization of clinical and neuroimaging data.
  • Implement best practices for harmonization, processing, and analysis of large-scale, multi-site MRI datasets and multimodal connectomics.
  • Develop reproducible workflows and analysis pipelines and guide the development of novel methodologies for the application of image processing algorithms.
  • Coordinate and manage data collection and analysis efforts within the group across multiple ongoing studies using the BRAINCommons.
  • Work closely with the BRAINCommons team, and internal and external SMEs to support the development of platform tools

Qualifications:

  • BA in statistics, mathematics, computer science, neuroscience, and biomedical engineering with 5+ years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3+ years’ experience applying artificial intelligence/machine learning modeling techniques to complex biological/medical datasets.
  • Extensive experience (5+ years) in processing and analysis of large multi-modal/multi-site neuroimaging datasets, demonstrated by a strong record of publications from these analyses.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in R/Python environments, with the ability to lay the foundation for complex data engineering tasks.
  • Strong computational skills, proficiency in FSL, fiber tracking software, Matlab, and DiPy for neuroimaging.
  • Unix shell scripting, with a substantial background in Unix platforms
  • Practical experience with high-performance compute clusters and/or cloud computing platforms (e.g. AWS).
  • A history of involvement in collaborative coding projects, utilizing version control systems such as GitLab to enhance project efficiency and maintain code integrity.
  • Familiarity with both structured (SQL) and non-structured (NoSQL) database systems
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, organizational, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all HIPAA-related Personal Health Information (PHI)
  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in setting priorities and working independently.

Position Location:

This position is located in New York City, New York, or Cambridge, MA. Authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

Compensation:

We offer a highly competitive salary commensurate with experience and a full benefit package.
