Technical Product Owner, BRAINCommons

Cohen Veterans Bioscience (CVB) is seeking an experienced Product leader with a background in software engineering and a proven track record in solving difficult problems, to lead CVB’s growing cloud-based data sharing and analytics platform, the BRAINCommons.

Reports to: Executive Director, BRAINCommons

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Gain a deep understanding of BRAINCommons application architecture, data and cloud infrastructure as well as its mission, vision and strategy and be the primary contact point for all technical queries and guidance.
  • Define technology strategies, product roadmap and release plans for BRAINCommons features as well as for its ongoing maintenance and technology refresh.
  • Create product/feature plans for each release, including acceptance criteria, use cases, success metrics, and related documentation. Define key product success metrics and ensure they are measurable and tracked.
  • Lead on release management to ensure deployments are done in a controlled way, risks are addressed and disruption to end users minimized.
  • Work closely with the Data Engineering team to ensure that BRAINCommons maximizes the value of CVB own and contributed datasets.
  • Manage and grow an internal team of DevOps/SRE and Software Engineers.
  • Ensure that external Software Development and Managed Services Providers comply with CVB’s Secure Software Development Lifecycle framework.
  • Take the lead on Product and Data Quality Assurance practices.
  • Liaise with top 1-2 customers intimately to understand their specific use cases, gains and pains to ensure that BRAINCommons roadmap addresses them effectively.
  • Work with the internal Data Science team to adapt BRAINCommons to better serve their needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or similar technical field of study with at least 10 years of experience in software engineering and architecture. Data management and informatics background a plus.
  • Experience working with cloud services such as AWS EKS, EC2, and S3.
  • Hands on full stack development experience within the past 5 years; at least basic knowledge of Python, Typescript and React.
  • Proven track record of building, deploying, and operating software using modern cloud-based techniques and micro-service architecture patterns.
  • GraphQL experience will be a plus.

Required Skills:

  •  Highly technical, innovative, and flexible thinker with excellent communication and passion for delivering the best experience for our BRAINCommons users.
  • Expertise with delivering software with reliability and resilience concepts with a clear understanding of testing methodologies and maintainable code quality.
  • Experience managing Product, DevOps or Software Engineering teams.
  • Experience working with multiple vendors across geographies and time zones.
  • Strategic mindset: able to define product strategy that achieves the company’s mission and delights customers.
  • Highly skilled in Agile software development methodologies.
  • Life Sciences or Healthcare domain experience is highly desirable, ideally working in a HIPAA-compliant or GxP-regulated setting.

Position Location:

New York City, New York, or Cambridge, MA are preferred; remote is possible. Authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Contractor also considered.
