Julian Ford, PhD, presented “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Assessment & Treatment Planning”, discussing approaches to PTSD screening and treatment planning.

Current approaches to PTSD screening, self-report assessment, structured interview diagnostic assessment, and clinician rating of current symptoms and change over time was described, highlighting specific measures developed consistent with DSM-5 PTSD criteria. Key considerations for treatment planning and ongoing monitoring of response to treatment were discussed in relation to the screening and assessment measures.

About Julian Ford, PhD
Julian Ford, Ph.D., A.B.P.P. is a clinical psychologist and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and Director of the Center for Trauma Recovery and Juvenile Justice, and Northeast Regional Director for the Complex Trauma Treatment Network, in the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Trauma and Dissociation and the European Journal of Psychotraumatology on the Board of Directors and Vice President of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, and Chair of the Presidential Task Force on Child Trauma for the American Psychological Association Division of Trauma Psychology.

His authored/edited books include Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, 2nd Edition (2015, Elsevier), Treating Complex Trauma: A Sequenced, Relationship-Based Approach (2013, with C. Courtois, Guilford), Treating Complex Traumatic Stress Disorders in Children and Adolescents: Scientific foundations and therapeutic models. (2013, with C. Courtois, Guilford), Treating Complex Traumatic Stress Disorders: An Evidence-Based Guide(2009, with C. Courtois, Guilford), and Treating Traumatized Children: Risk, Resilience, and Recovery (2008, with D. Brom and R. Pat-Horenczyk, Routledge). He developed the Trauma Affect Regulation: Guide for Education and Therapy (TARGET©) model for complex PTSD in adults and Developmental Trauma Disorder in children and adolescents. Dr. Ford serves as a consultant to numerous professional societies and advocacy initiatives, including the National Center for Youth Law and the California State CSEC Action Team.
