Development Programs Associate

Cohen Veterans Bioscience (CVB) is seeking a Development Programs Associate to fulfill a broad range of core advancement services and programmatic responsibilities and assignments in support of the organization’s fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Executive Director of Development and as an integral member of the development team, the Development Programs Associate will support the organization’s efforts to deepen engagement with CVB volunteer ambassadors and donor constituency groups and drive broader awareness and philanthropic support for the organization. This position is based in CVB’s New York City office.

The right candidate will embrace attributes of adaptability and flexibility, as the specific duties and responsibilities will evolve with the expansion of the CVB development program.

Primary Responsibilities:

The candidate will be assigned to manage CVB communications and support the CVB mission to advance biomarkers, and diagnostics, develop translational research tools, and accelerate therapeutic development for target brain diseases.

Ambassador and Annual Fund Programs

  • Coordinate CVB’s peer-to-peer fundraising efforts and lead the successful launch of the CVB Ambassadors program. Ambassadors play an important role in sharing CVB’s mission and fundraising campaigns with communities that are most impacted by CVB’s mission and work.
  • Co-lead the launch of CVB’s annual giving fund program and annual gift donor acquisition efforts, and steward community-level donors.
  • Maintain annual giving, peer-to-peer fundraising, and ambassadors program webpages.
  • Expand and coordinate targeted messaging, impact stories, personal stories and written content for social media and other forms of communication in support of CVB’s Ambassadors program and annual giving campaigns.

Advancement Services

  • Conduct special projects as assigned, manage gift operations, and provide supporting activities required to prepare, submit and manage gift proposals to donors and donor prospects. Projects and assignments will vary, and the capacity to be proactive, diligent, and thorough will be essential.

  • Conduct research and analysis on foundations, corporations, and individual donors and prospects using screening tools and online searches.
  • Proactively identify new high-level foundation and major gift prospects through electronic alerts, suggested analyses, screening information, data mining techniques, and demographic searches.
  • Manage general gift accounting, including in-kind gift records and donations.
  • Draft donation acknowledgment letters, secure signatures from CVB leadership, and ensure timely delivery to all donors.
  • Support donor communications. Prepares correspondence (e.g. letters, memos, and mail merges), and manages stewardship processes and communications.
  • Handle general inquiries from donors, prospective donors, volunteers, and CVB colleagues with timely, courteous, clear, and direct communications.
  • Edit and assist with writing of proposals, impact reports and PowerPoint presentations to individual, foundation and corporate donors and prospects.
  • Support in the tracking and management of Development-related expenses.
  • Efficiently manage new projects with agility and flexibility as they arise.

Prospect Data Management

  • Manage donor database (Salesforce) and ongoing record maintenance and updating of donor and philanthropic gift data.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Salesforce and CRM use-case questions.
  • Manage development team donor/prospect portfolios by documenting the movement of donors through the cultivation cycle and tracking qualified/disqualified leads in the database.
  • Manage the process of receiving gifts and recording all donation information.
  • Prepare data reports weekly and as needed. Exercise proficiency in high-quality data reporting. Create and maintain gift reports and donor and prospect lists and serve as prospect tracking and record keeping processes lead.

Events Management

  • Liaise across the organization to plan and execute events.
  • Coordinate special event marketing and sponsorships.
  • Coordinate staff volunteers and assignment of event duties.
  • Manage the development and review of all mailing lists.
  • Oversee the creation and deployment of event email communications in Salesforce. Track responses and analytics.
  • Develop guest bios.
  • Collaborating with development, communications and external affairs colleagues to develop event themes.
  • Build and manage event timelines and run-of-show.
  • Help oversee speaker coordination, event program content and development, design and production of all print/electronic collateral including invitations, programs, signage, etc.
  • Lead or co-lead and coordinate the day of the event for both on-site and virtual events.
  • Travel to staff retreats and special events is expected.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent.
  • Preferred minimum of 4 years of experience in a fast-paced professional office environment with a good understanding of general administrative office procedures, practices, and the prioritization of workflow.
  • Experience with Salesforce.
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical and research skills; experience researching foundation, corporation and individual funders a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and concisely synthesize large amounts of information from multiple sources.
  • Excellent writing and oral communications skills.
  • Proven ability to create a compelling case for support and to translate complex ideas into easily digestible content. An understanding of biomedicine is highly preferred.
  • Ability to manage a broad range of relationships with care, to read situations well, and to treat others with respect and humility.
  • Comfortable in an environment that is flexible and with circumstances that will require a high tolerance for ambiguity.
  • Possessing superb judgment, impeccable integrity and the maturity to handle sensitive information with care and confidentiality.
  • Familiarity with fundraising/donor relations is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.

Position Location:

Authorization to work in the U.S. required. The office location is Manhattan, NY (midtown, west side) with an expectation of 3 days per week in the office.

Compensation:

We offer a highly competitive salary commensurate with experience and a full benefits package. Salary Range: $45,000-80,000/year
